The Al and Barbara Scholarship was established by Al and Barbara Bishop to provide scholarship support for UConn students enrolled in the university's College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. The Bishops graduated in 1954. Al was proud of his alma mater, watching the women's basketball team and enjoying his visits back to campus for meetings and scholarship recognition programs.
In 2006, Al founded and sponsored the 4-H FIRST Robotics Apple Pi Team 2067, inspired by watching an energetic competition by his grandson's team. It is the first team with a farm as a major sponsor and illustrates the importance Al placed on exposing students to vocational studies and STEM education.
Al was chosen for the Eastern States Exposition Agricultural Adventurers Award in 2015, which annually honors honoring one outstanding leader in New England agriculture for innovation, pioneering and lifetime dedication to the betterment of agriculture.Donations will add to the principal of this fund to provide the scholarships for years to come.
