Funding of OOzeball and More Bucket List Events

Student Alumni Association A Project of Ignite 2016

The Student Alumni Association is raising money for OOzeball, a giant school-wide mud volleyball tournament which has been a tradition at this University for 33 years! Our plan is to use the money raised during this competition for this tournament, and if we raise more money than we need, the money will be used for future OOzeball in following years, as well as more Bucket List Days!

OOzeball is a single-elimination volleyball tournament played in 8 inches of glorious mud! It is one of the most popular events held on campus, hosting up to 400 teams and drawing nearly 3,000 students, alumni, and spectators.

The UConn Student Alumni Association started OOzeball in 1984, and it is an annual tradition that has since been adapted at many colleges and universities across the country! In 2004, OOzeball celebrated its 21st year at UConn and was chosen by Sports Illustrated as the "Best Mud Volleyball" in the country in the "Best of College Sports" issue. In addition to this, Sports Illustrated: On Campus voted OOzeball number 33 on its list of the "Top 100 Things To Do Before You Graduate: No Matter The Cost."

One of SAA's goals is to keep tradition alive at UConn. On behalf of the campus, we've put together a list of 81 Things to Do Before You Graduate. This list shows you how to be a student today and a Husky forever, and it honors UConn's past, present, and future. During Bucket List Days, we allow students to check off some items on their bucket list. Some examples include visiting one of the food trucks, meeting Jonathan the husky dog, or taking part in one ton sundae during Winter Weekend!

The UConn Student Alumni Association (SAA) was established in 1983 to promote strong student and alumni relationships through service to the university. We work closely with and directly under the UConn Foundation Office of Alumni Relations to help facilitate the transition from student to alumni while building a lifelong bond to the University of Connecticut. The Student Alumni Association holds a great sense of pride and tradition in the University, and with the affiliation of the UConn Foundation, the Student Alumni Association is able to promote this through a variety of activities and programs. Primary goals of the organization are to generate spirit and promote traditions surrounding the University among the student body, to instill leadership and communication skills in all members of SAA, to provide SAA members with opportunities to network with alumni, to connect SAA members with various organizations within the University and surrounding community, to provide information about the UConn Foundation to the student body, and to work with the UConn Foundation to promote student engagement and philanthropy. Students Today. Huskies Forever.™
