Fred Maryanski, Ph.D., died in July 2010. Fred was most recently president of Nevada State College, Henderson, which he led from 2005 until 2010. A UConn alumnus who earned his Ph.D. in computer science ('74), Fred was a faculty member who also served as the first head of UConn's Department of Computer Science & Engineering (1986-89). He joined the University administrative in 1989 and served two terms as Interim Provost as well as terms as Interim Chancellor and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. He is credited with the founding of UConn's educational technology program and helping UConn weather turbulent times. Earlier in his career, Fred served on the faculty of Kansas State University and held a research position at Digital Equipment Corporation. A highly respected, pioneering computer expert, Fred was founding Editor-in-Chief of theJournal of Very Large Databases.
