UConn NCNW (National Council of Negro Women) A Project of Ignite 2018
We sisters, represent the UConn Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women Inc., otherwise known as NCNW. This semester we would like to raise money towards planning events, traveling, and connecting with other sisters and communities. Consciousness raising, which was created by Civil Rights Movement and adopted by the feminist movement, was the idea that by sharing individual's stories, the community can reflect and learn how to better itself. Consciousness raising only comes about when people come together and listen to each others stories. By coming together and sharing our experiences, as women of color, we can improve the UConn community and society as a whole. If we raise more money than we need, the additional funds will be utilized towards future event planning and reaching out to national NCNW communities. In the event that our goal is not met, the funds will be used for special events on campus with potential guest speakers who embody the NCNW values, NCNW ceremonial grab, and membership meetings.
